Alaska’s Upcoming Elections

Are you wondering how Alaska’s new election system will change the way you vote and how votes will be counted? If you voted in the Special Primary Election last June (to fill the US House of Representatives seat vacated by Don Young’s passing), you already voted for one candidate from a field of 48! We’ll have our first opportunity to use the new ranked choice system when we vote on the top three vote getters (since one candidate dropped out) on the August 16 General Election.
Additionally on August 16 and on the same ballot, there will be a Regular Primary Election where all candidates for statewide office will be listed, including candidates for our lone congressional representative. On this ballot you’ll vote one. The top 4 vote getters in each race will move on to the Regular General Election on November 8 where again ranked choice voting will kick in.
There’s a lot going on! Please watch our second event featuring election experts to explain further and answer audience questions.

  • Jason Grenn, Executive Director of Alaskans for Better Elections
