In this issue, Alaska Common Ground (ACG) encourages civic participation as we approach the November 5 General Election. From judicial retention to renewable energy legislation, here’s what you need to know:
Judicial Retention Education – ACG partnered with Alaskans for Fair Courts on September 17 to explore Alaska’s nationally recognized, nonpartisan system for selecting and retaining judges. With 19 judges on the ballot, AFC emphasized the importance of finishing your ballot and making informed decisions based on the Alaska Judicial Council’s thorough evaluations—not political ads.

Community Solar Bill Signed into Law – The Community Solar legislation discussed at ACG’s renewable energy events passed and was signed into law on August 13. This new program will expand solar access to renters and those unable to install panels. The Regulatory Commission of Alaska has a year to develop regulations.
Ballot Measure 2 Forum – On October 20, ACG will host a public forum on Ballot Measure 2, which seeks to repeal Alaska’s ranked choice voting system. The event will feature speakers on both sides of the issue. Join us at the Loussac Library or online via YouTube.
