Justice System
We have hosted events discussing cost-effective justice, prisoner re-entry systems, and Alaska’s judicial appointment system. Alaska’s Constitution established a system in which Alaskans retain appointed judges, creating an important opportunity and responsibility for Alaskans to be informed and engaged in our justice system.
Given Alaska’s unique geographic and cultural landscape, the justice system must address challenges such as serving remote communities and managing the high costs associated with delivering justice across vast distances.
Alaska Common Ground believes that a fair and cost-effective justice system helps build public trust in the legal system, reduces the burden on taxpayers, and can help improve our communities and state. A justice system that balances fairness with efficiency can better allocate resources, reduce recidivism, and create safer communities. We also believe it is important for Alaskans to learn about our state judges who are up for retention and to cast informed votes.
