What’s up with Recycling in Anchorage?

 

In this online event, Kelli Toth, Director of Solid Waste Services of Anchorage provided an overview and update on the status of recycling  in the Municipality of Anchorage.  Do you know about the MRF (Materials Recovery Center) and the summer services they offer?  What projects are planned to reduce the amount of waste going into our landfill?  Is it possible to work towards zero waste here in Anchorage?

Alaska Scrap and Recycling – Free drop off, they accept a wide variety of metals.

All About Plastics!

Alaska Plastic Recovery – Converts #1, 2, 5 plastics into recycled plastic lumber or “Grizzly Wood.” Learn how you can drop off plastic and purchase Grizzly Wood!

Cook Inlet Tribal Council’s Denelchin Lab – They take #2 &5 plastics for use in a variety of projects.

Reduce and reuse retail opportunities

Blue Market AK –  An “old world” grocer with a zero waste model, both retail and online purchasing available.

Anchorage RE:Made – A hub to remake donated items that otherwise would end up in the landfill.

Fashion Pact – Donated clothing and homegoods with 30% of every item sold given back to local nonprofits selected by the donor and buyer (Choose Alaska Common Ground when you donate or purchase!)

Garden and Yard 

Yarducopia – Hosts three community composting drop of sites in Anchorage and curbside pickup for a small fee in some areas.

Alaska Botanical Gardens – Accepts clean nursery pots to reuse.
