Housing

Alaska Common Ground remains committed to engaging in solutions towards affordable and diverse housing options in our state.

Housing shortages and aging housing stock present significant challenges for residents, affecting both quality of life and the state’s economy. In 2019, ACG organized a 3-part series led by experts to specifically address housing needs in Anchorage, the state’s largest community. The series focused on key areas such as workforce housing, senior housing, supportive housing, low-income housing, and innovative funding approaches for new and increased development.

The lack of affordable housing in Alaska is not just a supply problem, it is compounded by factors such as climate, cost of living, and geographic challenges. Access to safe, quality, and affordable housing for all income levels and life stages is essential for creating a vibrant and sustainable state. ACG believes that when residents have stable housing, it strengthens economic stability, supports workforce retention, and makes our state a more attractive place to live, work, and, most importantly, stay to raise the next generation of Alaskans.

ACG is engaged in this issue because we believe that accessible, affordable, and quality housing is crucial for a healthy state. Our events have been designed to address these important concerns and foster a better future for all Alaskans.
