Transportation

Transportation remains an enduring area of interest for Alaska Common Ground.

In 2017, ACG organized a series of discussions aimed at addressing some of the transportation challenges affecting Anchorage and the Mat-Su Valley. These events brought together local experts and policymakers to explore multi-modal transportation options, planning strategies, non-motorized transit ideas, and ways to enhance regional connectivity. Among the top recommendations were boosting public involvement in decision-making, improving communication and coordination between Anchorage and Mat-Su Valley, and considering new solutions such as commuter rail and high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes.

As the population of these communities and Southcentral Alaska as a whole, continue to grow, the demand for efficient and sustainable transportation solutions becomes even more pressing. These challenges are more than just logistical, they have far-reaching effects on the region’s economic health, environmental sustainability, commuter safety, and overall quality of life for Alaskans.

ACG remains interested in this issue because we believe that a transportation system that is well-coordinated, accessible, and sustainable is essential for the health of our communities. By fostering public engagement and encouraging collaboration among policymakers, we strive to contribute to the development of a transportation system that meets the needs of today and anticipates the demands of tomorrow.
