An engaged Alaskan democracy

History

Alaska Common Ground (ACG) was and incorporated in 1991 as a non-profit organization under AS 10.20 on October 1991. The purpose for which it is organized is to collect and disseminate information on Alaska public issues and problems, to facilitate discussion of them, to seek consensus on them, to develop solutions and encourage their adoption and implementation in order to improve Alaskans’ understanding of public policy issues and opportunities with the goal of furthering a just society and sustainable democracy, and for any other purpose for which nonprofit corporations may be organized under Alaska law. Read our by-laws.

ACG is recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c)(3) organization that provides tax deductibility for contributions.

Alaska Common Ground is run by a Board of Directors, one of whom should reside outside of Anchorage and relies primarily on volunteer energy, drawing on the knowledge and expertise of members and interested citizens to organize its various projects. The Board is supported by a part-time staff position.

ACG encourages dialogue through forums, reports and policy papers, moderator training, and public service announcements (PSAs). Through cooperation with many other organizations, we are able to broaden the scope of our activities and increase participation.
